INKWELL

In Inkwell, each player will either take supplies from a shared mat, or choose to score and move on to a new page of their own codex. Supplies include colored ink cubes, gold leaf, and technique cards with special powers and effects. Everything you take must fit on your manuscript card, and if you empty the last inkwell of a certain type, the abbot ticks down the game time towards ending the game. If you choose to turn the page, you score for all your completed work, and collect your ability cards on the side to benefit you the rest of the game, building an 'engine' of learned skills. You also get a reward of gold leaf and a chance to pick your next page to work on. Just beware that if the abbot becomes upset, he may force you to move forward before you are finished. A strategic and tactical game with few rules and lots of choices, Inkwell is designed to celebrate beautiful historical manuscripts and surprisingly tricky gameplay for groups or even solo play.

If only you could decide WHAT to make. Should you begin with ceramics? Dabble in glass work? Create new textiles? Work with metal? Paint!? There are so many options, but you must begin somewhere. Surely, once you find your muse, other talented artisans will flock to your studio to find their creative outlet by your side. There’s no use daydreaming, though! Gather your materials, find your inspiration, and create the patterns for the artistic masterpieces that will turn your studio into one of the most renowned art houses the world has ever seen! Each round players will take turns using their artisans to draft material tiles in specific shapes from the market and using those tiles to craft patterns for renown. As each player crafts more patterns, they will gain new artisans or advance their existing artisans from apprentice to journeywoman to master crafter, giving them access to new shapes and better options when drafting from the market. At the end of the game, players tally their renown based on the artisans they have gained and patterns they have crafted, and the player with the most renown wins!

HUES AND CUES

What hue do you think of when we say “apple”? Hues and Cues is a vibrant game of colorful communication where players are challenged to make connections to colors with words. Using only one and two-word cues, players try to get others to guess a specific hue from the 480 colors on the game board. The closer the guesses are to the target, the more points you earn. Since everyone imagines colors differently, connecting colors and clues has never been this much fun! Gather around with three to ten people to play a quick and simple game with a prism of possibilities! First, a “cue giver” hides a specific color they’ve chosen out of a deck of cards. There are 480 shades on the board in front of you! After getting one- and two-word cues, everyone places their marker on which color they think is being described. “Coffee.” Is it dark brown, as in freshly brewed? “Au lait.” With milk. That means I should pick a lighter shade! Use examples from everyday life, from nature to pop culture, or materials and moods. Everyone around the table gets a turn to give cues and guess. The better your hints or guesses, the more points you earn. Play off others' experiences to narrow down what they have in mind!
