ASSAULT OF THE GIANTS

Assault of the Giants is a new Dungeons & Dragons board game designed by Andrew Parks. Designed for 3-6 players, Assault of the Giants challenges players to command one of the six types of giants and claim the right to rule over all giant kind. Command giants and assault settlements to score points and secure important resources, including food, treasure, ore, and runes. Contents include 12 Giants miniatures, injection molded in color, measuringfrom approximately 20mm to over 90mm in height, and three Giantslayers! Each player issues commands to their giants in the form of command cards (recruit, move, attack, pillage, and so on). This allows players to recruit new giants, send them out to attack settlements and other giants, and also to pursue special agendas based upon their race. For example, the Storm Giants seek to restore their lost monarch, King Hekaton. The Cloud Giants seek anancient dragon treasure trove, and the Hill Giants seek an abundance of food with which to feed their massive monarch, ChiefGuh. In Assault of the Giants players send their giants out to wage waron each other and the small folk, but the game’s real strategy lies in each player’s ability to pursue their giant race’s unique agenda, not only through combat but also through clever cardplay.

CTHULHU: DEATH MAY DIE

In Cthulhu: Death May Die, inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, you and your fellow players represent investigators in the 1920s who instead of trying to stop the coming of Elder Gods, want to summon those otherworldly beings so that you can put a stop to them permanently. You start the game insane, and while your long-term goal is to shoot Cthulhu in the face, so to speak, at some point during the game you'll probably fail to mitigate your dice rolls properly and your insanity will cause you to do something terrible — or maybe advantageous. Hard to know for sure. The game has multiple episodes, and each of them has a similar structure of two acts, those being before and after you summon whatever it is you happen to be summoning. If any character dies prior to the summoning, then the game ends and you lose; once the Elder One is on the board, as long as one of you is still alive, you still have a chance to win. The episodes are all standalone and not contingent on being played in a certain order or with the same players.

A WAR OF WHISPERS

A War of Whispers is a competitive board game for 2 to 4 players. Five mighty empires are at war for the world, but you are no mighty ruler. Instead, you play a secret society that is betting on the results of this war while pulling strings to rig the results and ensure their bets pay off. A War of Whispers is a game of deep strategy, hidden agendas, and shifting loyalties. You start the game with five loyalty tokens, each corresponding to one of the five different empires, bet randomly on a loyalty value. Your primary goal is to ensure that when the game ends, the empires you are most loyal to control the most cities across the globe. Gameplay consists of turns broken down into four phases: Deploy agents phase: In player order (starting with the first player and proceeding clockwise), each player removes, then deploys agents to empire councils, the positions on the board marked Sheriff, Steward, Marshall, and Chancellor. Empire turns phase: Each council position on each empire council will take an action. If a player has acquired cards, they may play them during this phase. Cleanup phase: Add the turn marker to the next space on the turn tracker, then each player discards down to the hand limit of five cards. Swap phase: In player order, each player may swap two of their unrevealed loyalty tokens. If you choose to do so, you must reveal both of the swapped loyalty tokens. They remain revealed for the rest of the game. Gameplay repeats itself in this order four times. When the last space on the turn track is filled, the game ends immediately and scoring commences. The player with the most points based off their empire loyalties and the cities they control wins.
